Clashes erupted near Akashwani Bhawan on Imtiaz Ali Marg in the national capital when protesters affiliated with the Cockroach Janata Party attempted to breach security cordons to reach Jantar Mantar, where they had sought permission to hold a demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to police officials, around 25 to 30 protesters broke through barricades at noon and engaged in stone-pelting against security personnel deployed at the site. The confrontation resulted in injuries to two police officers, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
Authorities had denied permission for the planned protest and implemented enhanced security measures across New Delhi district in anticipation of the demonstration. Police and paramilitary personnel were positioned to prevent protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar, where prohibitory orders remained in effect.
As the demonstration progressed, security forces pursued protesters who attempted to regroup and circumvent the security cordon at multiple locations across the district. The sustained enforcement operation resulted in the detention of approximately 500 individuals throughout the day.
