TACLOBAN CITY — The Mabuhay Deseret Foundation has completed vision screenings for over 580 public school students in the Leyte towns of Alangalang and MacArthur, targeting young learners whose eyesight difficulties are impacting their academic performance.
Students identified as needing corrective lenses through the charitable program will be provided with free prescription eyeglasses by December, according to foundation officials.
The initiative addresses a widespread concern in Philippine schools, where uncorrected vision problems contribute to poor classroom performance and limit educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged youth. By identifying and treating refractive errors early, the program aims to remove barriers to learning and improve student achievement across the two municipalities.
The Mabuhay Deseret Foundation's effort reflects broader efforts to improve educational outcomes in Leyte province by addressing preventable health challenges that interfere with school attendance and academic success.
