Over 6,000 kg of ration shop grains seized in Kerala raids

Acting on a tip-off, the Kerala Food and Civil Supplies department launched a search operation at a locked residential premises in Karali, Parassala, and recovered over 6,000 kilograms of rice and wheat. Police assisted the department officials during the raid.
Authorities suspect the grains were diverted from ration shops under the public distribution system and were being stockpiled for sale on the black market. The discovery underscores ongoing challenges in preventing the diversion of subsidized food grains meant for vulnerable sections of the population.
The recovery comes as state authorities continue efforts to strengthen oversight of the ration distribution network. Officials have intensified vigilance following repeated instances of grain diversion across the state, which undermines the delivery of essential commodities to eligible beneficiaries at controlled prices.
The seized grains have been secured by the department pending further investigation. Authorities are examining the supply chain to identify those responsible for the alleged diversion from designated ration shops.
