Over 8 lakh government posts remain vacant across central ministries

According to data released by the Union Finance Ministry in response to an RTI query, 8,23,556 posts are currently vacant out of a sanctioned strength of 39,23,212 positions across all Ministries and departments of the central government.

The disclosure was made following an information request filed by RTI activist Chandra Shekhar Gaur from Madhya Pradesh. The figures underscore the significant staffing gaps that persist within India's bureaucratic apparatus, with nearly one in five authorized positions remaining unfilled.
