Akbaruddin Owaisi has raised concerns about the systematic encroachment of waqf properties, pressing authorities to implement decisive steps to reclaim and protect these religious assets. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) legislator stressed that waqf lands, held in trust for Islamic charitable purposes, have become increasingly vulnerable to illegal occupation and misuse.
Encroachment of waqf properties has long been a contentious issue, with numerous cases reported across multiple states involving agricultural lands, commercial properties, and religious structures. The problem has persisted despite existing legal frameworks, leading to financial losses for waqf boards and affecting their capacity to manage educational and healthcare institutions dependent on waqf revenues.
Owaisi's intervention reflects broader concerns within minority communities about the protection of waqf assets. He has called for enhanced coordination between waqf boards, police authorities, and land administration departments to prevent further encroachments and expedite the recovery of illegally occupied properties.
