The OWWA has mobilized support for the family of a Pangasinan-based overseas Filipino worker who perished in an October 21 drone attack on Saudi Aramco's Shaybah oilfield in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
While officials have not yet publicly identified the victim, the welfare agency has begun extending financial and administrative assistance to the worker's next of kin to help them cope with the sudden loss and its economic consequences.
The attack on the Shaybah facility marked one of several incidents affecting foreign workers employed at critical infrastructure sites across Saudi Arabia. The incident underscores the risks faced by millions of Filipinos working abroad in regions experiencing geopolitical tensions.
The OWWA, as the government agency tasked with protecting the interests of overseas Filipino workers, typically provides death benefits, repatriation assistance, and other support services to families of workers who die while employed abroad. Officials are coordinating with relevant government agencies and Saudi authorities to ensure proper documentation and expedited processing of the victim's case.
The Philippines is home to over 10 million overseas workers, with significant populations employed across the Middle East and Gulf region.
