PAF mercy flight for stranded Batanes tourists delayed by bad weather

A Philippine Air Force C-130 transport plane scheduled to evacuate roughly 100 stranded tourists and local passengers from Batanes was grounded on Tuesday due to high winds, forcing organizers to postpone the mercy flight indefinitely.

The passengers, who had been trapped on the northern island province for multiple days, were preparing to depart when deteriorating weather conditions made flight operations unsafe. No alternative departure date has been announced, leaving the group in a state of uncertainty as they await updated flight schedules.

The evacuation operation highlights the logistical challenges of accessing Batanes, which frequently experiences adverse weather conditions that disrupt transportation links to the mainland. The PAF regularly conducts emergency relief flights to the province when commercial services are unavailable due to inclement weather.

Officials did not immediately provide details on arrangements for accommodating the stranded passengers while they await clearance to fly. Batanes, located at the northernmost tip of the Philippines, is particularly vulnerable to typhoons and strong winds that can isolate the province for extended periods.
