The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) raised the tropical cyclone wind signal to Level 2 over Batanes on Wednesday morning as Super Typhoon Rosal, internationally designated as Typhoon Champi, continued drifting east of northern Luzon. The alert was announced in the agency's 11 a.m. bulletin as the powerful system moved further away from the archipelago's northernmost province.
Level 2 signal indicates that damaging gale-force winds are expected or occurring in the affected area, posing threats to structures, power lines, and maritime operations. Residents in Batanes were advised to take precautions and secure loose objects that could be blown away by strong winds.
The super typhoon's track showed it moving eastward into the open Pacific Ocean, reducing the immediate threat to the Philippines. Pagasa continued to monitor the storm's progression and issued updates to guide disaster response efforts and public safety advisories across affected regions.
