ILOILO CITY — State weather forecasters have issued a general flood advisory for Western Visayas, cautioning communities near rivers, tributaries, and elevated terrain to prepare for possible flooding triggered by the intertropical convergence zone.
The advisory, issued Wednesday evening, urged residents in low-lying areas and along mountain slopes to exercise heightened vigilance as the weather system brings widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across the region.
The intertropical convergence zone, a band of low pressure that forms near the equator where trade winds meet, frequently brings heavy precipitation to the Philippines during certain periods of the year. Communities affected by the advisory are advised to monitor weather updates regularly and avoid venturing into flood-prone areas until conditions improve.
Local government units in Western Visayas were expected to coordinate with disaster response teams and maintain readiness for emergency operations should flooding occur in their respective jurisdictions.
