Pagasa warns of intensified monsoon rains across northern, central regions

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration warned Wednesday evening that the habagat, or southwest monsoon, will bring enhanced rainfall to Northern and Central Luzon from Thursday onward. According to Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin de la Cruz-Galicia, the convergence zone associated with the monsoon system will maintain its position over the northern and central portions of the main island, creating conditions favorable for sustained heavy precipitation.
The weather bureau's 5 p.m. advisory indicated that the concentrated rainfall pattern would persist through the forecast period, with the potential to trigger flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous and hilly terrain. Residents, local government units, and disaster response agencies are urged to maintain heightened preparedness as the system develops.
