MANILA — The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) remains unable to fulfill a P37 billion retroactive remittance obligation to the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) that was mandated by a Supreme Court ruling, Pagcor Chairperson Alejandro Tengco disclosed Monday.
Tengco made the statement during the House of Representatives committee on appropriations' 2027 budget hearing, indicating that the unpaid amount covers a decade-long period following the high court's decision. The retroactive remittance stems from legal proceedings that determined Pagcor's payment obligations to the PSC.
The delay in remitting the substantial sum raises questions about the gaming corporation's financial capacity and priorities amid ongoing budget discussions for the coming fiscal year. The PSC, which oversees Philippine sports development and athlete welfare programs, has been unable to access the court-mandated funds.
Pagcor officials have not provided a specific timeline for when the P37 billion payment will be processed, leaving the PSC's funding needs unresolved as the agency continues its operations.
