Pagcor slaps P1M fine on online gambling firm over unauthorized promotion

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) has imposed a P1 million penalty on an online gambling company associated with celebrity Ivana Alawi for conducting an unauthorized cellphone giveaway, according to Pagcor Chairperson Alejandro Tengco.

Tengco announced the enforcement action during the House of Representatives committee on appropriations' budget hearing for Pagcor's 2027 allocation. The regulatory body did not specify the name of the gaming operator but indicated it was linked to Alawi through the promotion in question.

Beyond the monetary fine, Pagcor has ordered the gambling firm to cease the promotional giveaway immediately. The agency's action underscores its commitment to ensuring licensed operators comply with regulatory requirements governing promotional activities in the online gambling sector.

The case reflects Pagcor's continued oversight of the gaming industry and its efforts to prevent unauthorized promotions that could circumvent established regulations.
