Pahang declares end to hardcore poverty with 2,913 households lifted

KUANTAN — Pahang has announced the complete elimination of hardcore poverty in the state, with all 2,913 households previously classified in this category now lifted out of extreme deprivation. The milestone was achieved on February 19, according to state authorities.

The development reflects broader progress in poverty reduction across Pahang, where overall poverty rates have declined by 30 percent. The improvement underscores the effectiveness of targeted social and economic interventions implemented by the state government in recent years.

Hardcore poverty, defined as extreme indigence with household incomes falling significantly below the poverty line, has historically posed one of the most persistent development challenges in Malaysia.
