KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 — Malaysian immigration authorities have dismantled an elaborate scam call centre allegedly operating around-the-clock from an abandoned resort in Pahang, with raids resulting in the detention of 98 individuals. The Director-General of Immigration disclosed that the defunct hotel had been repurposed as a sophisticated fraud hub, complete with Starlink satellite internet connectivity and a network of lookout personnel positioned to monitor law enforcement activity. The operation represents a significant security concern, highlighting how criminal syndicates continue to exploit abandoned properties in the country to conduct large-scale telecommunications fraud targeting both domestic and international victims. Investigators recovered multiple communications devices and computer equipment from the premises, with authorities indicating that the ring had been operating continuously without interruption. The discovery underscores growing challenges faced by Malaysian law enforcement in combating organised scam operations that increasingly utilise advanced technology and remote locations to evade detection.
