Pakatan Harapan calls for debates across all Melaka contest seats

MELAKA — Pakatan Harapan (PH) has thrown down a gauntlet to Barisan Nasional (BN), proposing a series of open debates featuring candidates from all four state seats contested by both coalitions in the upcoming Melaka state election.

The opposition coalition said the debates would provide a platform for voters to directly compare the candidates and their respective parties' visions for the state. By holding discussions across all contested seats, PH argued, the electorate would be better informed to make their electoral choices.

The proposal marks an escalation in campaign rhetoric between the two major coalitions as the election date approaches. BN has not yet responded publicly to the debate challenge. Political analysts say such direct confrontations on policy could influence voter sentiment, particularly among undecided voters in competitive constituencies.

The debates would cover local and state-level issues affecting Melaka residents, according to PH's proposal. Voter participation in political forums and debate platforms has grown in recent Malaysian elections, reflecting increased public interest in detailed policy discussions beyond traditional campaign rallies.

The outcome of the Melaka election is being closely watched as a barometer of political sentiment in the state ahead of broader national political developments.
