Pakatan Harapan dismisses early election speculation amid GE16 talk

PEKAN — Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has rejected suggestions of an imminent general election, stating that the current administration need not rush to the ballot box.

Speaking in Pekan today, Saifuddin pointed out that the next general election is not constitutionally due until February 2028, giving the government considerable runway before any fresh mandate is required.

His remarks come as speculation intensifies in political circles regarding the timing of the 16th general election. Recent weeks have seen increasing discussion about the possibility of an earlier-than-expected poll, though the government coalition has given no official indication of such plans.

The Pakatan Harapan leadership's public stance reflects confidence in the coalition's political position, with senior figures seeking to maintain focus on governance rather than election preparation. The coalition, which leads the current government through a broader political alliance, has previously emphasised its commitment to completing its five-year term.
