Imran Khan spent the night at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad after Pakistan's top court directed his medical evaluation. A team of doctors examined the incarcerated politician and determined he was in satisfactory health condition to remain in custody.
Khan was transferred back to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi early Friday morning, approximately five hours after his hospital admission. The medical clearance came as the former cricket star-turned-politician faces multiple legal cases while detained.
The overnight hospital visit marked the latest development in Khan's legal battles since his arrest in August 2023. Pakistan's judiciary has overseen several interventions regarding his detention conditions, with the Supreme Court previously ordering medical assessments and inquiries into his treatment.
Khan, who served as Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, has maintained his innocence against various charges and his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has organized protests demanding his release. His legal team has consistently raised concerns about his imprisonment, though authorities have defended the detention as necessary pending trial proceedings.
