Pakistan, Kuwait bolster defence ties with new cooperation protocol

The landmark accord, signed Thursday at Pakistan's Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi, represents a significant expansion of the defence relationship between the two nations. Kuwait's delegation was led by Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Al-Sabah, alongside Lt Gen Khalid Al-Shriaan, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces.

Official sources confirmed that both sides discussed bilateral defence relations, security cooperation and mechanisms to strengthen military ties. The new agreement builds substantially on the Defence Cooperation Agreement-2023, creating a more comprehensive framework for joint defence initiatives.

Under the expanded protocol, Pakistan's Armed Forces are set to provide technical and operational assistance to Kuwait's military across multiple domains. The agreement encompasses training programmes, institutional capacity building, and collaborative efforts in border management—areas deemed critical for regional security by both nations.

The accord reflects deepening strategic cooperation between Islamabad and Kuwait, a significant regional power and key ally in the Gulf. Both countries have emphasized their commitment to addressing shared security challenges through enhanced military coordination and knowledge-sharing between their respective defence establishments.
