Pakistan's PTI postpones Islamabad march until early October

Pakistan's main opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party has rescheduled a major political march from Peshawar to Islamabad to October 4, according to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The announcement came after the party had previously signaled plans for an earlier demonstration in the capital.

The long march represents a significant show of force for the PTI, which has faced mounting pressure since the ouster of party leader Imran Khan from office last year. The jailed former prime minister remains a dominant figure within the party despite his legal troubles, continuing to command substantial support among its grassroots base.

The postponement could allow organizers more time to prepare for what is expected to be a large-scale mobilization. Pakistan has experienced heightened political tensions in recent months, with opposition parties challenging the current government's legitimacy and policies.

The PTI controls Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Pakistan's second-largest territory, which gives it significant organizational capacity for mounting demonstrations. The party has previously used mass rallies as a key tool to maintain pressure on the federal government and sustain public engagement during a period of considerable political uncertainty.
