Pakistan Super League eyes January 2027 shift to escape IPL scheduling clash
Pakistan's T20 league could move to January next year as organisers seek to address revenue concerns and avoid direct competition with India's IPL. The proposal emerged at a PSL Governing Council meeting following repeated scheduling conflicts.

The Pakistan Super League is considering a significant shift to January 2027 in an effort to sidestep the scheduling conflict with India's Indian Premier League and boost advertising revenues, according to discussions at the PSL Governing Council meeting held in London on September 1.
Media rights holders Walee Technologies, who also own a PSL franchise, have proposed moving the eight-team league from its traditional February-March window to January-February. The move comes after consecutive years of the PSL clashing with the IPL's April-May schedule, which organisers say has limited their ability to attract advertisers and sponsors.
The PSL has operated in the February-March window since its 2016 inception, but the Pakistan Cricket Board was forced to reschedule the league to April-May in recent years due to ICC events occupying the original time slot in 2025 and this year. This repositioning has resulted in overlapping broadcast windows with the IPL, creating competitive disadvantages for the Pakistani event.
Beyond scheduling concerns, franchise owners have also flagged declining viewership and interest in the PSL, attributing the downturn partly to Pakistan's inconsistent performances across international cricket formats. The proposed January window is expected to provide a clearer broadcast space and potentially reignite sponsor interest in the league.
