Palace insists massive budget cut will not disrupt government operations

MANILA — The Palace has assured the public that a significant reduction in the Office of the President's budget will not impede its ability to function, Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said on Sunday.

The House appropriations committee voted 37-5 to curtail discussions on the OP's proposed P10.15-billion budget for 2027, endorsing a 64-percent cut from current funding levels. The lopsided committee vote indicated broad legislative support for the reduction.

Recto's statement underscored the administration's confidence that operational capacity would not be compromised by the austere budget allocation. The reassurance came as lawmakers pressed forward with the appropriations process ahead of next year's budget implementation.

The dramatic budget reduction represents one of the most substantial cuts to the presidential office in recent years. The committee's swift vote to approve the measure reflected the legislative majority's commitment to fiscal consolidation across government agencies.
