Palace maintains distance from Romualdez hospitalization proceedings

The Palace adopted a non-interventionist stance regarding the ongoing hospitalization of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, emphasizing that medical decisions rest solely with attending physicians. A Palace spokesperson clarified that the administration would not involve itself in matters concerning the timing of Romualdez's potential transfer from the hospital to a detention facility. Romualdez is currently confined at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City while under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. According to Palace statements, only doctors treating the former lawmaker can make determinations about his medical fitness for transfer. The position reflects the government's deference to medical protocols in cases involving hospitalized individuals in official custody. Romualdez's hospitalization status remains subject to ongoing medical evaluation, with authorities awaiting physician clearance before any facility transfer takes place.
