Palace suspends work in 18 areas as habagat rains intensify
Malacañang has directed government offices in 18 areas to shift to alternative work arrangements on Wednesday as the southwest monsoon brings heavy rainfall across the region. Public schools are also implementing distance learning in the affected zones.

MANILA — The Palace ordered government agencies to adopt flexible working arrangements in 18 designated areas on Wednesday, August 19, in response to adverse weather conditions brought by the habagat, or southwest monsoon season.
Government offices in the affected areas have been instructed to implement work-from-home setups and other alternative arrangements unless their respective local chief executives issue different directives. The measure aims to ensure employee safety while maintaining essential government services during the period of heavy rainfall.
Public schools across the 18 areas are also transitioning to alternative learning modes to ensure learning continuity for students at all levels. The Department of Education is coordinating with local government units to implement distance learning platforms during the suspension of regular classes.
The habagat typically brings moderate to heavy rainfall across the western portions of Luzon and the Visayas during the monsoon season. Residents in affected areas have been advised to remain vigilant for flash floods and landslides while the weather system remains active.
