COTABATO CITY — The Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) has urged lawmakers of the Bangsamoro Parliament to set aside competing interests and work cohesively as the region embarks on its inaugural regular parliamentary session.
Secretary Mel Senen S. Sarmiento, the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, issued the call on Saturday, emphasizing the importance of unity among legislators representing diverse constituencies and political interests across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
The statement underscores the government's commitment to supporting the Bangsamoro's institutional development as it transitions from the transitional Bangsamoro Transition Authority to a fully operational parliamentary body. Officials have stressed that the success of the region's autonomous government depends on constructive dialogue and consensus-building among parliament members.
The formation of the regular Bangsamoro Parliament marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, which established the framework for the BARMM's self-governance structure. The transition is seen as a critical test of the peace accord's effectiveness in the region.
