MANILA — The Office of the President has challenged Vice President Sara Duterte to employ evidence-based arguments when responding to accusations against her, rather than relying on rhetorical tactics that lack substantive foundation.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro made the statement on Saturday, directing her remarks at Duterte's recent denial of allegations that she received money from Rodulfo Gracioso Jr., a dismissed policeman and former member of her security detail.
Castro specifically criticized what she characterized as the Vice President's use of "red herring" and "ad hominem" fallacies—tactics that deflect from the central issue or attack the accuser rather than addressing the substantive claims directly.
The exchange reflects mounting tensions between Duterte and the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., with the Palace signaling its expectation that public officials, particularly those in high office, should meet a higher standard of accountability in their public statements.
