Palaniswami hits out at Vijay over TVK functionary's drug arrest

AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday called out Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the ruling DMK for their apparent silence over the arrest of a TVK functionary in connection with a significant drug seizure operation.

Palaniswami drew particular attention to the fact that the narcotics interception was carried out by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, a central agency operating under Union government oversight. The AIADMK leader used the development to criticize the TVK-led state administration, suggesting it should be held accountable for the incident involving one of its party officials.

The arrest marks an embarrassment for the TVK, the political outfit led by actor Vijay that has emerged as a significant political player in Tamil Nadu in recent years. Palaniswami's remarks underscore the political fallout from the drug seizure case and the questions it has raised about governance under the current state administration.

The case continues to draw scrutiny from opposition parties, with the AIADMK using it as ammunition to challenge the ruling coalition's credibility on law and order issues ahead of forthcoming electoral contests in the state.
