CALAPAN CITY — Authorities arrested four people and recovered 33 live animals during a coordinated operation against illegal wildlife trading in Palawan's Taytay municipality, officials confirmed Sunday.
The enforcement action took place Friday in Sitio Ibangley, Barangay Abungan, and was conducted by the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) in coordination with the City Mobile Force Company and local police.
The operation resulted in the rescue of 33 live animals from illegal traffickers, though authorities did not immediately specify the species involved or detail the charges to be filed against the four arrested individuals.
The action underscores ongoing efforts by regional authorities to curb poaching and illegal wildlife trade in Palawan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its exceptional biodiversity. The province has become a critical focus for enforcement agencies combating the smuggling of protected fauna destined for black markets both domestically and internationally.
