Palawan police bust illegal cigarette smuggling ring, seize P1.6M haul

Police in Palawan have dismantled an illegal cigarette trading network following coordinated raids across the province on October 30 and 31. The Palawan Police Provincial Office reported seizing 1,710 reams of suspect contraband cigarettes during separate operations conducted in Bataraza and Narra municipalities.

Three individuals were taken into custody as a result of the enforcement actions, among them a minor. The first operation in Bataraza resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old fisherman, according to the provincial police office.

The seized cigarettes, estimated to be worth P1.615 million, are believed to have been intended for illegal distribution in local markets. The Palawan Police Provincial Office did not immediately disclose additional details regarding the suspects' identities or the origin of the contraband goods.

The operations reflect ongoing efforts by provincial authorities to combat cigarette smuggling and illegal trade activities that undermine tax revenues and fuel unregulated commerce throughout the region. Investigators are continuing to pursue leads related to the broader smuggling network.
