Pampanga flooding forces scaled-back celebration of patroness anniversary

The Archdiocese of San Fernando announced plans to reduce the scale of commemoration events for the milestone anniversary of the Virgen de los Remedios' canonical coronation, citing the ongoing flood crisis affecting communities throughout the province.

Archbishop Florentino Lavarias said organizers would maintain the spiritual significance of the occasion despite logistical constraints imposed by the disaster. "Our celebration will be very simple yet meaningful," he stated, underscoring the church's commitment to honoring the patroness while acknowledging the hardship facing residents.

The decision reflects broader challenges facing Pampanga as widespread and prolonged flooding inundates residential areas, displaces families, and strains emergency response resources.
