Pangasinan farm sector sustains half-billion peso loss from storms
Pangasinan's agricultural sector has suffered damages exceeding P508 million from successive tropical cyclones and monsoon rains that swept across the province. Rice farming bore the brunt of the destruction, with nearly 10,000 hectares of crops affected.

LINGAYEN – Farmers and fisherfolk across Pangasinan face significant economic hardship following back-to-back weather disasters that have ravaged the province's agricultural landscape. Provincial Agriculture Officer Dalisay Moya reported to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan that total losses from flooding caused by tropical cyclones Luis and Maymay, combined with heavy rainfall from the southwest monsoon, reached P508.19 million.
The rice sector absorbed the greatest impact, with approximately 9,859 hectares of cultivated land damaged or destroyed by the successive storms. The extent of losses across other agricultural subsectors, including livestock and fisheries operations, remains under assessment as provincial authorities conduct damage evaluations.
The cascading weather events underscore the vulnerability of Pangasinan's farming communities to seasonal hazards and climate-related risks. Provincial officials are expected to pursue assistance programs and recovery initiatives to help affected farmers and fisherfolk rebuild their operations and restore productive capacity.
No timeline for full recovery has been announced, though provincial authorities continue to coordinate with national agricultural agencies to determine relief measures and support mechanisms for the affected communities.
