CALASIAO, Pangasinan – A farming dispute over an accidental crop damage escalated into violence in this Pangasinan municipality, leaving one man hospitalized with a head wound.
The 51-year-old victim confronted his 67-year-old neighbor after discovering that the older farmer's employee had mistakenly harvested a portion of his rice crop, according to police records. The confrontation quickly turned physical on Monday.
During the altercation, the victim was struck on the head with his own bolo, a traditional farming tool, police said. He was treated for the injury, which authorities classified as serious enough to warrant investigation.
Police are continuing their inquiry into the incident and have not yet announced charges against the 67-year-old suspect. The case highlights ongoing tensions in agricultural communities where land boundaries and harvesting operations sometimes lead to disputes between neighboring farmers.
