CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Mangatarem town has emerged as the hardest-hit agricultural area in Pangasinan province following sustained rainfall and weather disturbances in August, according to the Department of Agriculture in the Ilocos Region.
The municipality recorded farm losses totaling approximately P138.61 million, making it the most severely affected locality in the province during the weather event. Agricultural officials attributed the significant damage to consecutive days of heavy precipitation that swept through the region.
Across Pangasinan province, initial agricultural loss reports reached P508.19 million. However, the Department of Agriculture's validation process has confirmed losses of P468.92 million, reflecting the scale of damage to crops and farming operations throughout the province.
The validated figures underscore the vulnerability of Pangasinan's agricultural sector to severe weather events. The province's farming communities continue assessing the full extent of damage to standing crops and infrastructure damaged during the August weather disturbances.
