MANILA – Senate Agriculture Committee Chairperson Kiko Pangilinan filed Senate Resolution No. 726 on Thursday, directing his panel to investigate the persistently low farmgate prices of hogs and chicken even as production and feed costs continue climbing.
The resolution seeks to examine the structural issues affecting local meat producers who face a squeeze between mounting operational expenses and inadequate market prices. Pangilinan's inquiry will focus on identifying policy interventions and mechanisms to protect farmers' profit margins in the livestock sector.
The investigation comes as the agriculture committee moves to address longstanding concerns from local producers about market dynamics that have kept prices depressed despite inflationary pressures on feed, labor, and other production inputs. The resolution directs the panel to explore comprehensive solutions that balance consumer affordability with producer sustainability.
Pangilinan's initiative reflects broader efforts in the Senate to support domestic agriculture amid economic headwinds affecting farming communities across the country.
