MANILA — Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan said Saturday that he remained hopeful more senators would strengthen the Senate majority as political alignments in the chamber evolve.

The comments came after Sen. Mark Villar switched his affiliation, altering the balance of power in the upper house. When asked during a radio interview whether additional senators might join the majority, Pangilinan indicated openness to such developments.

The Senate majority, which currently stands at 14 members, faces continued fluidity as individual lawmakers reassess their political positions. Meanwhile, the minority bloc, led by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, has undergone its own adjustments following recent shifts in Senate alignments.

Political realignments in the Philippine Senate are not uncommon, with lawmakers occasionally changing affiliations based on legislative priorities and political considerations. The ongoing developments underscores the dynamic nature of Senate coalition-building ahead of key legislative sessions.
