PAP elects new Central Executive Committee members in leadership ballot

The PAP conducted elections for its Central Executive Committee on Sunday, marking the first such ballot overseen by Wong since he assumed the party helm and the premiership in 2024. The exercise represents a routine governance process for Singapore's ruling party as it refreshes its leadership structure.

Wong, who led the party through last year's General Election campaign as the newly appointed prime minister, oversaw the selection of committee members who will form part of the party's senior decision-making apparatus. The ballot determines which party members will occupy key positions within the organization's hierarchy.

Among those who contested for seats were Jeffrey Siow and Jasmin Lau, both of whom received nominations from party members. However, neither candidate achieved the necessary support to be elected to the Central Executive Committee, according to the results announced following the ballot.

The PAP's internal elections serve to ensure leadership renewal and maintain party governance standards. The Central Executive Committee plays a significant role in shaping party direction and strategy, making the selection process an important event in the party's organizational calendar.
