PAP launches volunteer training to identify isolated seniors

The PAP Senior Citizens Group has begun a pilot training scheme aimed at strengthening support networks for isolated seniors in the community. The programme equips volunteer leaders at the grassroots level with practical tools and knowledge to identify elderly residents who may be socially isolated or vulnerable.

The initiative is being rolled out across nine constituencies including Bedok, Kaki Bukit and Toa Payoh Central. Trained volunteers will work to connect isolated seniors with available community resources and support services, helping bridge gaps in existing care networks.

The training curriculum focuses on recognising signs of isolation among elderly residents and establishing meaningful engagement pathways. Participating constituencies represent diverse demographic profiles across Singapore, allowing organisers to test and refine the approach before potential wider implementation.

The pilot programme reflects growing attention to elderly welfare and social isolation among Singapore's ageing population. By leveraging grassroots volunteer networks, the initiative seeks to provide early identification and intervention for seniors at risk of falling through conventional support systems.
