The People's Action Party Women's Wing has announced a new mental health ambassador programme designed to strengthen support systems for women across Singapore. The initiative represents an expanded commitment to addressing mental well-being as a key component of women's health and workplace equality.
The programme will focus on three primary areas: supporting the mental health needs of women in early-career stages, destigmatising discussions around perimenopause and menopause, and advocating for improved workplace flexibility. By training ambassadors within the party's women's network, organisers aim to create informed advocates who can champion mental health awareness within their communities and workplaces.
The initiative reflects growing recognition of gender-specific mental health challenges that women face at different life stages. Early-career workers often grapple with workplace pressures and work-life balance, while hormonal transitions associated with perimenopause and menopause frequently go unaddressed in professional settings, contributing to stigma and underreporting of symptoms.
Through the ambassador programme, the PAP Women's Wing intends to foster open dialogue around these issues and promote workplace policies that accommodate women's health needs. The scheme is expected to provide ambassadors with training and resources to support conversations on mental well-being among female colleagues, friends, and family members.
