Parañaque City has suspended rollout of its no-contact apprehension policy (NCAP), according to city officials. Public Information Officer Erel Cabatbat confirmed to media that the policy remains unimplemented as of now.
The city government announced no formal timeline for when the deferral might be lifted or when a final decision on the policy would be made. Officials did not provide specific reasons for the decision to postpone implementation.
The no-contact apprehension policy had been under consideration as a traffic enforcement measure, allowing authorities to issue citations to vehicle owners without direct interaction at the point of violation. Such systems typically rely on camera footage and vehicle registration data to identify and penalize traffic offenders.
Parañaque joins other Philippine cities and municipalities that have grappled with questions about the operational and legal feasibility of similar enforcement approaches.
