Paradip Port Authority has initiated a comprehensive expansion programme worth approximately ₹2,008 crore to enhance its operational efficiency and cargo throughput. The port, one of India's major maritime gateways on the eastern coast, formally inaugurated seven completed projects valued at ₹427.8 crore on Tuesday, marking a significant milestone in its infrastructure modernisation drive.
Concurrently, the port authority signed concession agreements for three mechanisation projects estimated at around ₹1,580 crore. These projects are designed to introduce advanced cargo handling systems and reduce operational bottlenecks that have historically constrained the port's efficiency.
The investment push reflects the broader strategy to strengthen India's port infrastructure and reduce logistics costs for export-oriented industries. Paradip Port handles substantial volumes of cargo including iron ore, coal, and containerised freight, serving as a critical link for industrial output from eastern India.
Official sources indicated that the mechanisation initiatives will introduce state-of-the-art equipment and technology to streamline cargo movement, potentially reducing vessel turnaround times and operational expenses. The projects are expected to be executed over the coming years, with phased implementation ensuring minimal disruption to existing operations.
