PARAKH launches monthly interventions to plug India's learning gaps
The national assessment body has unveiled a district-level action plan focused on competency-based teaching and regular assessments. The initiative aims to address learning deficiencies identified in last year's national survey.

PARAKH, the independent national assessment centre functioning under the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), has initiated a structured monthly intervention programme across districts nationwide. The rollout represents a shift in educational focus—from evaluating how well students perform to actively improving learning outcomes.
The intervention strategy is grounded in findings from the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan (PRS) 2024, a comprehensive national assessment that identified specific competency gaps among learners. Rather than treating assessment as an end point, the new framework uses these insights to drive targeted, competency-based instruction at the district level.
The monthly intervention model enables educators to identify learning deficiencies systematically and implement corrective teaching measures in real time. By anchoring interventions to specific competencies, the programme allows schools to tailor instruction to address gaps rather than adhering to generic curricula.
The initiative underscores PARAKH's expanded role beyond assessment administration. As an autonomous unit of NCERT, it is positioning itself as a catalyst for educational improvement by converting diagnostic data into actionable intervention protocols for states and districts.
Education stakeholders view the move as a pragmatic response to persistent learning outcomes challenges in Indian schools, offering a framework that bridges the gap between identifying problems and implementing solutions at the grassroots level.
