KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 — Parliament's lower house turned its attention today to the lingering financial obligations of 1Malaysia Development Bhd, with discussions centring on the company's net liabilities standing at RM20.1 billion and progress toward their settlement.
Lawmakers also scrutinised proposed modifications to BUDI95, a bumiputera quota scheme, as part of broader debates on economic policy and corporate initiatives. The legislative session provided an opportunity for representatives to examine the implications of the proposed changes for affirmative action programmes.
A third point of parliamentary focus involved the development and regulation of data centre facilities, reflecting growing government interest in Malaysia's digital infrastructure and its role in positioning the nation as a regional technology hub.
The parliamentary session underscores the government's ongoing engagement with complex financial, economic and technology matters as it navigates recovery from the 1MDB crisis while pursuing broader modernisation objectives.
