Parliament launches dedicated Translation Unit to enhance service delivery

The newly established Translation Unit represents a significant institutional development for Parliament, focused on enhancing the efficiency and quality of translation services across the legislative body. The unit's opening underscores Parliament's commitment to modernising its administrative operations and supporting its workforce.

Parliament Secretary-General Kushani Rohanadeera inaugurated the unit, emphasising the importance of effective leadership and institutional cohesion in driving organisational progress. Speaking at the opening, Rohanadeera highlighted that the Parliamentary Secretariat views the translation services as a critical function requiring dedicated resources and professional infrastructure.

The establishment of the Translation Unit addresses longstanding operational challenges within Parliament's translation services, which handle documentation and communications across multiple languages. By consolidating translation functions under a dedicated unit, Parliament aims to streamline workflow, improve accuracy, and establish standardised professional practices.

The initiative reflects broader efforts by Parliament to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure that essential services meet contemporary standards. Officials indicated that improved translation services would enhance Parliament's effectiveness in serving both legislators and the public.
