Parliament passes amended Anti-Corruption Bill without division

Parliament passed the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill on October 8 without a vote, clearing the way for modifications to strengthen the country's corruption framework. The amendments target discrepancies and interpretational challenges identified since the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023, came into force. Lawmakers agreed the revisions were necessary to ensure the legislation functions as originally intended while resolving practical obstacles encountered during implementation. The amendments address gaps between the Sinhala and English versions of the original Act, administrative complications, and technical definitions that required clarification. The passage of the measure signals parliamentary consensus on the need to refine the anti-corruption framework, which remains a focal point of Sri Lanka's governance agenda as the country works to strengthen institutional accountability and public trust.
