The Committee on Parliamentary Business has approved a timeline for Sri Lanka's 2027 Budget proceedings, allocating two months for legislative scrutiny of the government's fiscal proposals.

The Second Reading of the Appropriation Bill, during which the Budget Speech and detailed proposals will be presented, is scheduled for 12 November. This will be followed by a comprehensive debate phase spanning from 13 November through 14 December, allowing Parliament members adequate time to examine and discuss the financial measures.

The First Reading of the Budget is set for 7 October, marking the formal commencement of the parliamentary process. The extended debate period underscores Parliament's commitment to thorough examination of the annual budget proposals before final approval.

This timeline provides lawmakers with a structured framework for reviewing the government's spending plans and revenue measures for the coming fiscal year.
