Parliament Speaker Awaits No-Confidence Motion, Reform Bills

BANGI — More than three months after various political figures raised the prospect of filing motions in Parliament, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said Wednesday that none have materialised.

The Speaker indicated he is still awaiting submission of a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister, as well as proposed Bills addressing the Prime Minister's term limits and the separation of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor roles.

These matters have been subjects of ongoing parliamentary debate and public discussion, with multiple lawmakers signalling intentions to table formal motions. However, the absence of official submissions means Parliament has yet to schedule debate or votes on any of these contentious issues.

The delay underscores the procedural hurdles required before Parliament can formally consider significant constitutional and governance reforms. Political parties and individual MPs must follow established protocols by submitting detailed motions to the Speaker's office before these matters can be scheduled for parliamentary consideration.

With Parliament's legislative calendar already packed, observers note that the timing of any submissions could determine whether these proposals gain traction during the current session or face deferral to future sittings.
