The Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Johari Abdul, confirmed on Tuesday that he has not received the bills concerning Prime Minister term limits and the separation of the Attorney-General and Public Prosecutor roles. His statement came as observers anticipated the government would table these constitutional amendments during the current parliamentary session.
Johari indicated that legislative coordination typically follows a set protocol, with his office being notified approximately two weeks in advance of bills scheduled for tabling. This advance notice allows parliamentary processes to be properly scheduled and documented.
The two proposed constitutional amendments have been subjects of considerable discussion within government circles and among legal experts. The PM term limits proposal would impose restrictions on how long a Prime Minister can serve consecutively, while the AG-PP separation bill would split the dual role currently held by a single office holder into two separate positions.
