Parliamentarian Rajapaksa remanded until late October in graft case

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama extended the remand after reviewing submissions presented by investigators from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). Rajapaksa, a prominent parliamentarian, was already in custody on charges related to accepting bribes in the high-profile Airbus matter.

The order came as authorities continue their investigation into the allegations against the MP. CIABOC officers informed the court that further investigative steps were necessary, leading to the extension of his detention.

The Airbus case has attracted significant public attention, with multiple investigations underway into allegations of corruption involving the procurement of military aircraft. Rajapaksa's remand represents one of the ongoing legal proceedings emerging from the broader inquiry.
