A parliamentary committee has proposed significant structural changes to the NEET UG medical entrance examination, suggesting a bifurcated approach to streamline the selection process for medical aspirants across India. The recommendation envisages a prelims stage followed by mains examination, aiming to improve the efficacy of the current single-stage assessment model.

The committee emphasized the need for strengthening institutional frameworks governing the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers the examination. Among its key recommendations is a directive that the NTA must engage subject matter experts from India's premier educational institutions when constructing question banks for the examination.

The panel has also flagged concerns regarding translation quality and consistency across regional languages. It has advised that the NTA should leverage expertise from renowned institutions to ensure accurate and standardized translations of examination materials, addressing ongoing concerns about linguistic parity among candidates appearing in different languages.

These recommendations come amid persistent demands from educational stakeholders and political leaders for reforms in the NEET UG framework. The proposed two-stage structure is expected to distribute examination pressure more effectively while maintaining assessment rigor. The committee's emphasis on institutional expertise reflects broader concerns about examination quality and the need for continuous improvement in India's competitive medical entrance processes.

The recommendations will now require consideration and approval through appropriate government channels before any implementation.
