PAS does not need to respond to assumptions about Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi becoming prime minister, the party's treasurer Iskandar Abdul Samad said, noting that the next general election is still far away.
Iskandar made the remarks in response to questions about the Umno leader's potential ascension to the top post, emphasizing that PAS has not broached the subject of prime ministerial candidates at this stage.
The comment reflects the Islamic party's cautious approach to speculation about future political arrangements ahead of the 16th general election. PAS has maintained focus on its current political positioning rather than engaging with hypothetical scenarios involving other coalition partners.
Party leaders have previously signaled that discussions about cabinet positions and leadership roles would only take place closer to any election call, when coalition negotiations become more concrete.
The statement underscores the fluid nature of Malaysia's political landscape, where alliances and leadership arrangements remain subject to change as parties assess electoral strategies and voter sentiment.
