PAS leader urges government to allocate funds to opposition from year one
A senior PAS official has called for opposition parties to receive budget allocations from the start of the government's term, rather than only in the final year. Awang Hashim argued that late-stage funding fails to address long-standing inequities faced by the opposition.

A PAS leader has challenged the government to demonstrate commitment to opposition parties by providing budget allocations from the beginning of its term, rather than reserving funds for the final year.
Awang Hashim said providing financial allocations only in the latter stages of a government's tenure does not adequately resolve the structural disadvantages opposition parties have endured since taking office. He urged decision-makers to move beyond symbolic gestures and implement meaningful support from the outset.
The remarks come as Malaysia continues to navigate power-sharing arrangements and opposition representation in parliament. Allocating resources to opposition lawmakers and parties is a mechanism for ensuring they can effectively discharge their parliamentary duties and engage with constituents.
Awang Hashim's call reflects broader discussions in Malaysian politics about fairness in parliamentary practices and the practical resources needed by opposition members to function effectively in government institutions.
